Probably. There are already scratches there. [emoji4]

Sometimes I have to use a single edge razor blade with a metal backing to start some of those off. There is also a nifty little black tool on the bay that resembles a little crowbar that you can get from China and they work great as long as you keep the edge sharp. They provide the much needed leverage that a screwdriver tip just won’t give you and you don’t have to worry about a screwdriver blade being stuck in your hand or finger. Painful experience.

thanks guys.sorted it.took the broken glass out and then pushed through the dial and the back came away easily, although i would probably need one of the tools suggested for next time!(battery change etc).tried to get it off earlier near the crown but sadly the stem broke at the point where it goes into the crown (boss).so i now have the problem of trying to get that bit of the stem out.fitting a new stem wont be a problem?

i don't think you'll be able to remove that piece, and will need a new crown. And since you need a  specific replacement cystal also , that may be a bit too much to make the repair worth on on a quartz fashion watch.
