Jumping beat rate

Recommended Posts

I just testing out this Classic 1501 with 1570 cal. Dial down position runs good but when the dial face up the rate dramatically change, could it be magnetized ? , I remember cleaning this in ultrasonic and I also remember one vdo in Mark channel show the magnetized movement got weird pattern like this.

You can quickly check Your watches with Gauss meter android app. The magnetic sensor is usually in the upper left corner, over the display of smartphones. I am working with a supeconducting NMR (9.4 Tesla ~ 94000 Gauss) and ESR electromagnet at my workplace so they are exposed to high fields regularly (if i forget to put them down before going close to the magnet :) )

This is my GMT watch (steel case) in the different positions over the sensor, checked yesterday. Once it was so close to the magnet that it stopped for half a minute.

And this is my "antimagnetic" Tyssitt (zinc and copper case), this was not yet close to the magnet:

However, my GMT watch does not show such fluctuation in different positions. In the contrarily, it has 3-5 sec/d difference max. This is a cheap chinese dg2813 based movement.

If no magnetized, You have to check the bridge screw, cap jewels, incabloc springs, oil amount, endshake and pinions finally.

Or if its recently serviced just let it run for a few days in different positions and check again.

Gauss meter.   ill have to get one.   I  check the watch and  balance with a small compass.  if the balance spring is magnitised,  I take the balance cock and balance,  wrap it in paper and  pass it  through the De gausser.

I would suspect more a problem with the upper balance stone or pivot. Give them a look under the highest magnification you have and redo their oiling.
