Hi to all from Lincolnshire (yes another one!). I have been a lurker for a while but I like the whole tenet of this forum. I find it knowledgeable, friendly and packed with easy to understand advice. I hope I can help out others as they have (unknowingly so far) helped me.

I have been a clock collector for many years and mostly do my own repairs. However of late my interests have expanded into mechanical watches, and following advice obtained from here and elsewhere I plucked up courage to disasseble an old Sindaco jump hour watch which had lain in my bedside drawer since around 1975. All went very well except that the balance spring is out of shape and given the cheap movement it is, the spring is bonded to the stud rather than the usual screw fixing and I have been reluctant to separate it so far. It is running but gaining 20 minutes per day. I stress the spring was already out of shape, I did not bend it!

Anyway recently a friend entrusted me with a 1960's Garrard which would not run. Bless his heart he said have a go and if you wreck it, no problem. Well after a total strip, clean and oil, the movement is running beautifully so he will have it back after regulation.

Sorry to bore you with all this but that is the sum total of my watch restorations so far. Now to the car boot sales!

Hello and Welcome from me,

Not boring at all and by the sound of it you will fit right in. I have a couple of jump hour watches in the increasing queue of repairs I have neatly and sequentially ordered on my desk ( no laughing lads - this is a new one and he does not know me) anyway, the 60s Garrard is a fine testament to your skills.

Look forward to your postings and of course pics.

Seasons Greetings from me,

Cheers,

Vic

Welcome and thank you for a great introduction, and congratulations on your achievements so far. If you do a search you will find information on the forum that will hopefully allow you to sort out your hairspring problem.

Being a spandrel, it's great that you have decided to join us and you are no longer sitting in the corner looking in! ;)

Welcome Spandrel, I too started with clocks but moved into watches. Hairspring manipulation is tricky but gets easier with experience & practise.

Enjoy the forum.
