Hi everyone,

Just a quick post to say hello. I’ve been a watch obsessive for many years (read decades!) - there is something about the mechanical perfection of a small device that keeps time to a few seconds a day that has always fascinated me… I remember years ago reading about Harrison and the importance of marine chronometers in global exploration. I’ve a few watches collected over the years but tbh struggled with the massive prices of some watches when the chronometer grade movement could be purchased for a few hundred pounds.

Anyway, I don’t know why I didn’t do this years ago - but recently got into watchmaking/ repairs/ tinkering etc. There are a huge amount of resources online that help enormously in the beginning. Doesn’t matter what I need to do… there’s a video of it! So thanks to everyone who gives their time for free to contribute to this body of expertise.

I bought some Chinese clones of AliExpress and have been stripping them down and learning the trade. I am now formally working through Mark’s tutorial program which seems excellent, and dip into Alex’s (Watch repair tutorials)  videos which are similarly excellent (sorry i haven’t paid for your course Alex!). I am now upgrading my starter set of tools and equipment as I go along (luckily I am not keeping a tally of how much this is costing!).

Looking forwards to further explorations. I always come back to this forum which is chock full of sage advice - so I thought i had better join formally.

Cheers

Steve
