Hi

I managed to soak most of the parts and pry them off but I cant get off the setting lever button from the plate and the stem out of the winding pinion. The stem turns together with the winding pinion. Any tips?

What fluid did you use to soak?

What remains looks to be a job for vinegar, give it a fifteen  minutes soak , check see what its done, repeat .

In ultrasonic, check it every 3 minutes.

If soaked for a long time, vinegar can cause damage.

What??? No Coke today?

Ha ha,  as Rich said "swollen due to rust".

Needs heavy duty solvent.

Advantage of coke is it penetrates, won't damage metals in 48hrs, but is not as strong as vinegar.

@Khan   winding crown is your concern if you go with vinegar, keep checking it.

Good luck

I soaked it in oil before with the rest of the movement. Now I have soaked it twice 15 min at a time in vinegar but its still stuck. It looks like the rust has expanded between the winding pinion and stem etc.

How much rust is removed now?     if just the outer layer, try scraping off some with the tip of a screw driver, you want the least work done chemically.

When most of the rust is removed , light taps on the stem might break the joint free.

Applying heat by with soldering gun, then immediate quench in ice-water, helps.

Oh I didnt read your latest comment but guess what..

I managed to pull the stem out with some force and a "stem-holder". I began with soaking it in vinegar up to couple of hours which didnt work that much. But thanks for the creative tips with heat/cold and tapping. Now I know that in another case🙏

Good to see you didn't need to break and take the stem out in pieces.

Everything now cleans in solution of soap water    IN ULTRASONIC.

Good luck.

Thank you, Yeah pulled it straight out. By the way, do you think it should be replaced? The thread got a little thinner in the beginning, after scraping rust from it. But it seems strong enough though since it could withstand the heavy pull.

Wrap some aluminium foil around the  stem end and install the crown on it.
