Hello all

Recommended Posts

I am a complete amateur who can't resist taking things apart. I know just enough to be dangerous.

The question I need an answer to has to do with a carriage clock, but I hear they are similar to pocket watches, so here goes:

I need to replace the hairspring  for this clock. I bought a package of  assorted hairsprings, but none of them is the right size. What are the specs for a hairspring and how do you measure it?

Diameter of the spring? Diameter of the middle part? I don't know the correct terminology. Thanks.

Thank you for your introduction and welcome to this friendly forum.

We all look forward to your contributions and continued involvement.

Carriage clocks are nothing like pocket watches.

The photo is of a cylinder balance wheel, hair spring and balance cock and screw. Can you show me the movement. It might be better to buy a second hand complete platform.

Welcome, if the pivots on the balance wheel are good just re-pin the hairspring showing, I am assuming it is the original and only about 2-3 millimeters have been lost, the hairspring stud looks to be still in the bridge/cock....
