Hi, tryin to clean up my grandfathers watch

Recommended Posts

I have a Hamilton Gordon-B watch from 1954-55. How do I replace the crystal? From everything I have read so far. Non-circular crystals are glued in. Do I just need a crystal lift to replace it or is it different. Would I use glue to remount it? Also any recommendations where I can get the face refurbished would be great appreciated. Thank you

Welcome to WRT forum.

No need for crystal lift tool,  remove the movement, with your thumb push out the crystal from inside the case , and if it doesn't like to come out, soak the bezel in water preferably boiling water, wipe off any residue with actetone.

You could try cleaning it in place - for acrylic crystals I use autosol metal polish to take out the scratches:

Then finish off with autosol acrylic polish, which I think is almost the same stuff as polywatch in my experience to put that final shine on the acrylic:
