New to group

Well, I'm green to this and any groups and new to the hobby.  I am into the Watch-Making hobby for about 2+ months and just got into  Clock-Making about a week, my daughter in law had a broken mantle clock in a box and asked if I could rebuild it but don't change its appearance "just put it back together and make it work".  So who could turn that type of request, so now I'm in the watch and clock business.

I've spent about a week gluing the case back together and ordering parts to repair the movement as I discover issues and deficiencies.  The clock is a Seth Thomas and appears to be about 100 years old, there is no movement identification, just the ST logo, and 8 1/4 is the only other stamp on the movement.  The thing that is apparent to me is the need for a main spring winder, since the Ollie Baker seems to be a simple design and the winder seems to be unavailable, I'm now trying to find the plans for one so I can build one, I've got a lathe and a milling machine os it does not look that difficult.  The only thing I can't make out from the videos on YouTube is the ratchet gear.

Other hobbies, Amateur Radio, Flying, Shooting Sports, Cooking, Looking for a new best friend (my wife passed away last year), recovering from a broken leg, and just staying alive.

By the way, my name is Michael W. Smith, and that's all for now.

Hi Michael and welcome aboard!

have you looked into the "All Things Clocks"  forum yet? There is quite a bit of info there on clock mainspring winders including copies of prints of DIY winders. I put one in there myself. good hunting and good luck!

I answered your email too.
