My Po Witschi Readout - What Does It Mean??

After getting my Omega PO its first service in nearly 10 years, this info was supplied to me on pick up.  Unfortunately the watchmaker was away when I picked it up so couldn't quiz him.

 

Can you help with reading this printout. I kind of get some of the symbols FU, FD, CD, etc...It looks good to me (or is it just wishful thinking) but I can't exactly work out why I think this is so and which is the important column to read.  Not sure at all what the 4th column is.  Hoping someone can put me straight.

I do not own a Witschi but the readings are taken with the watch in different positions i.e. DU is dial up etc etc. Yours shows symbols of the different watch positions.

The first column shows how much the watch is gaining/losing  the second column is the balance amplitude & the third column is the beat error measured in milli seconds.

Conclusion a healthy watch gaining a small amount every day.

 

Someone who owns a Witschi might be able to enlighten you more.

Thank you, clockboy. I have managed to do a bit more research and I am beginning to get a feel for what the readings are.  My biggest concern, given these readings, is that for a COSC movement the +009 (gaining 9 seconds if I am saying it correctly) is too much.

It depends on how your watch performs on your wrist. These readings are taken while it is static attached to the timing machine. For this reason I would not come to any conclusions until after a few weeks to see how it performs. I would personally would  try to get it lower than 9 secs a day but it depends on the age of the watch etc etc.

If really not happy go back to the repairer with an exact as possible error over 24hrs and the guy should be able to adjust accordingly.

My ACE Timer 1000 has turned up and so I am just learning how to use it.

this is a reading of an Omega cal 1861.  From the little I know the beats look reasonably well spaced. though the rate is losing time and I am assuming that is why the downward moving trend.  Any thoughts on this reading.  Cheers.

A bit of beat error running and bit slow in that position. You need to put the watch in all positions to get an average before adjustment

 

PS Also possible slight fault one side of escapement which might improve when adjusted for the beat error or it just needs cleaning

Is the average the important reading because that takes into account all the positions? I can see how it would be. I suppose that with me sitting at a desk for most of the day and walking I would want to get the average between Dial Up and Crown Down.

Some watch repairers use an auto winding machine (see pic) to get a better average but you will still have to ware it for a few days to see how it really performs. That,s my best advice.

To understand your timing machine and the results you'll find the answers in the links below. So on the report you have the first six art easy They represent dial-up and dial down Then the four different pendant or crown positions . So basically these are the typical positions you would time a watch. Then for the X And D if you don't have an automatic timing machine to do that you need a PDF found at the link below titled Calculation of the values X-D-DVH-Di-Im-N.

 

Then when you're timing watches you need the lift angle which is used to calculate amplitude and I have a link for that..

John is the PDF an excel sheet of some sort i.e. it calculates the average once figs are entered

No. From my end it is a Pdf.  I was hoping it was an excel worksheet. Waiting for John to reply on this one. 

Thinking about it it would be easy to create anyway i.e. average is a basic function with excel/numbers(mac) . I will have a go later
