  1. I am assuming it depends on the watch, but generally, and wearing over a 24 hour period, how much energy can a rotor typically input into the power reserve. And secondly if your watch is in the last 25% of it's power reserve will that cause the watch to speed up slightly? Thanks

  3. I am finding that this escape wheel is floating between bridges as if too short - has it been broken?
  4. Following Nucejoe's directions I managed to straighten the sub seconds post and it's beating strongly and the seconds hand is keeping beat with the Atomic clock app I have. However, the time is running running about a half hour slow within the hour. I am assuming something is going on around the centre and third wheel? Because the seconds hand is keeping time I am thinking it's not the balance wheel. Any thoughts or ideas on what this new issue might be would be greatly appreciated!
  5. To test this, I put the hands back on and the movement didn't stop. Put on the subsecond hand and it came to a stop quick enough. Any tips on straightening it without breaking it?
  6. Just put it under the microscope and yep, sure is bent. Yep bent. I just had a good look under the microscope. You gents have amazing sight! Would this then be the most likely cause stopping the free movement of the train wheels and balance?
  7. Yep, I had better check ranfft again as there are a couple of other differences I can see in the photo I have of the c. 157 as well.
  8. No canon sweep pinion I can see. Canon pinion turning smoothly - should I grease between the mainplate and the canon pinion gear? Missing dial washer?
  9. What's happening here? I am in the last stages of assembling a 1956 Movado Cal.157 and the balance is ticking along nicely, but here is the issue. When I press the hands into place the balance ceases to oscillate. Any ideas what might be going on here? Thanks
  10. Thanks, mate. I have notes that say D5 and notes that Grease as well and that's what's thrown me. Mark says grease on the pinions but on the video I am watching he doesn't mention what he uses on staff. He applies what looks like the same blue grease he uses on the pinions.
  11. Hi all I am re-assembling a 1956 Movado Cal.157 and unsure if I should be using Grease (I have Molycote DX) or D5 on the stem and winding.sliding pinion. What is suggested for each part? Thanks in advance.

  14. Could have been an oiling issue on this Cal 8800? Seems to have settle now. for what a cheap timegrapher is worth here are some results in Dial up position:
  15. That sounds perfectly reasonable, but why the increase in time keeping while that was happening but then returning to "normal" and more expected time keeping after it corrected? Could the second hand have been lightly pushing the minute or the minute pushing the seconds at points in the rotation? You think it would slow it down.
  16. Hi all.This Omega 210.30. Seamaster 300m played up and then resolved itself. It seemed to be running about 10 secs per day fast. I decided I would check its accuracy by timing it against the atomic clock app. When I fully extended the crown into the hacking position to set the watch I noticed that moving the minute hand also moved the seconds hand. Possible tight canon pinion?https:// But here is the weird thing: The seconds had "shift" has miraculously resolved itself after a few days of repeating the action. Did I loosen the canon pinion by winding the hands around the dial? On testing it against the Atomic clock app over the last 48 hours the watch is now running at + 3 secs per day well within cosc specs Can a tight canon pinion cause the movement to run fast? If so how? Thanks.
  17. Hi all I am looking for a tech sheet/oiling guide for the early (1960s) Omega Cal. 611 or any of the 6 series will be helpful - can you help? I think that even the 55x/56x might even do. Hope you can help Cheers John
  18. Thank you for that helpful information that lead me to the NWCC Forum where I found this: "To fill these oilers you need a small rubber hose that fits over the class tube. Place the hose on the end where the needle is,then place the other end in your oil bottle and suck on the hose. This will draw the oil into the glass tube. Don't fill the tube completely full. A small amount will last a long time. You can store the oiler laying flat in a dark place like a drawer of your watch bench." Not sure how you "place the hose where the needle is...then place the other end in the oil bottle then suck on the hose" I take this to mean suck on the glass tube to draw the oil into the tube? Agree? Edit: Found this on WUS: "In the past you could get glass "fountain" oilers. These are a blown glass tube with a very fine steel capillary in the end. They are about three inches long, and are filled by putting the tip down in an oil bottle and sucking on the open end of the tube. I have used these type oilers, but much prefer the control offered by a set of good dip oilers. "
  19. I came across these vintage oilers and unsure of the markings and how to use. There is an opening channel at the tip of the needle which I assume allows oil stored in the tube to flow. Thanks

  22. So far I have been advised that the "ancestory"" is a fontainemelon (FHF) movement of some type that has been modded to resemble a "Jules Jurgenson" bridge type. So now I need to find the exact caliber it's based on. I have included some sizes in mm and inches (not sure of the lignes) and I am hoping someone with a "Best Fit" book might be able to identify the caliber it is based on.
