Hello, I am a retired research employer  and new with watches.

I have a Timex Indiglo but the battery lasts for less than 1day. After 3batteries I saw that the light stays on. (even without crown ). crown, o-ring and contacts are clean.  Between the brass and rvs contact is a thin, rubberlike, loose foil.

Anyone an idea what is wrong and how I can fix it.

Andreas

I've worked on a few Indiglo watches.  May I ask:
- if you place the battery in the movement, does it still continue to glow while not in its case?
- Does it only do this while the movement is cased?

Basically you're looking for a short or a jammed-closed contact.  If it misbehaves only in its case, it may be a stuck pusher or push-in crown.  If you can rule those out, then you may be looking at finding a replacement circuit board.

Hello karlvonkoln,

the light stays on out of the case even with the crown removed. As seen in my picture there is a lose peace of thin rubber (a bit pulled out). I do not dare to pull it out yet as I don't  know its function.  Can you explain how the "lightswitch" works ?

Hello watch friends, problem with 'light staying on' on my Timex M4 Indiglo still exists, even with the stem removed!

Can someone tell me how the light is activated.

I see a brass peace in front of a thin plate which can be activated by a e-ring on the stem. I still wonder if the small peace of rubberlike material is part of the watch; I don't dare to remove it yet.

Any help or suggestions is/are very appreciated.

There is a very good subject (Timex Indiglo repair) on this site. The account of the member is inactive so I cannot send him a message. I posted next reply on that subject. I hope someone can help me further.

Hello Moo, thanks for the very good instruction repairung your Indiglo. You are right about the lack of information on the internet. Especially the good pictures are very helpfull. Nifty you handled the e-ring.

I started a topic ( Timex Indiglo light stays on) for the Indiglo (Timex M4)for a friend of mine but I haven't a solution untill now. As to be seen in my picture there is a rubber like material between the contacts. It is loose but I did not dare to remove it until yet as I do not know its function. In your picture I think I see a dark piece plastic. Probably this plastic is a kind of isolation but I don't know how it exactly looks and its position. Perhaps you can help me futher.

As your account is inactiveI hope you can send me an answer.

Regards, LimburgerAd

Problem with light solved. With the stem removed I measured a conduction (zero Ohm) between the contacts. Probably there is some where a short cut. Looking at the watch I found a distorted contact opposite of the crown (see arrow on picture). Don't know what its function. I think someone, by changing the battery, the contact has distorted. Thanks to the info on this forum and the internet I could solve this problem.  Ad

    • Bringing this old thread back to life, as I have similar problem. I did follow this advice, but while inserting a male stem (crown side) and just pushed it to the female part, and the fork (female side) of the stem has broken. What is the right way? Push the stem part so it widens the gap and fits in? Why it was then receiving side got broken? Old metal? It is a vintage watch from late 60s.    or the outer part should be inserted somehow from the side (slipping to the gap), but I don’t have space there for this manipulation. The watch is Orient Fineness monocoque case.   thank you!
    • Thats insane Nev that you cut those tiny pinion teeth with a cutter you designed and made.
    • I certainly do Razz. Ive just started work on this AS554, interestingly enough it had a paper dial made from a postcard , look at the brand name on the dial, very curious.
    • [SBGA405] Grand Seiko “Godzilla” Spring DriveI always enjoy coming back at the end of the week to my first Spring Drive watch which is a combined automatic mechanical watch and a high quality quartz — a Spring Drive.Impressive accuracy (10 seconds per month) and wears remarkably comfortable at 44.5 mm in diameter and 95 gm.Love the power reserve indicator, and the colour of the dial amd the watch band. One of my “perfect” watches!!😍
    • Yep, so we got a 10 1/2  ligne movement, thats the starting point now these bad boys books should hopefully get us across the finishing line . Next we need a good clear picture of that rocking bar, the setting lever and the setting lever spring. I've already got an idea what it might be.
