New starter hobbyist.

Recommended Posts

Hello all. Found myself a new hobby of pocket watch restoration a few years ago. Been in and out of it due my career as a submariner but now looking to spend more time involved in it.

Fairly well set up with tools etc, but sadly had to let my lathe go to a new home last year.

I have several watches in a collection, my favourite are railroad especially Waltham.

Already have a few successful repair jobs under my belt and I'm a member of the BHI.

So, what brings me here I hear you ask?

My current project is a repair on a cylinder escapement movement with, yeh you guessed it, a broken balance staff.

I've just been reading threads on here from last year about how tricky it is to replace the plugs at each end. In my case, on end is completely bent over which I've straightened out but I have zero confidence in strength.

Im happy to remove the staff, measure it and hopefully track down a replacement.

Happy to discuss options.
