Hi all does anyone know how the mainspring on this smiths 60s clock works, i presume the silver part on the wheel is to act like the click but how does it operate i can see when you go to wind it up it moves to close the gap but nothing catches to stop the spring from unwinding any ideas also what part of the floating balance do you oil ,thanks in advance.

The silver plate is acting like the click. The 3 springy prongs of the disk engage the rectangular holes of the wheel and act like a ratchet.

I haven't learnt the proper way to let down power from such clocks yet. I normally remove the pallet and let the wheels spin down in a controlled way.

How did you power down the mainspring?
