I bought this clock  and it has a broken main spring.  Any source on how to remove the mainspring barrel from these works? Preferably without taking apart the works.

Thanks

I need to see the other side of the movement. You need to remove the movement from the case. With some movements it is possible to remove a barrel without taking the whole movement apart, but as things are with the picture I can't see.

Agree with OH some you can just remove the barrels but the other side needs inspection. However found this vid and it looks like no you will have to strip.

Hi  afraid you will have to split the plates to remove the barrels, Remember to remove power from all springs before attempting to dismantle the clock

1050-020 is an 8 day triple chime clock with a floating balance unit. Westminster, Whittington and St Michael Chimes,  Selectable.

Agree it has to come all apart. If you have no experience in repairing a chime it is best you take it to someone who knows about them. You need to check the teeth and the wheels on the side that has the mainspring problem, if the spring has broken it can rip teeth of wheels and the barrel, even bend wheels and pivots. You are going to need a Mainspring winder tool, putting a spring in by hand will damage the spring.
