Hello all -

I'm a librarian in Toronto, Canada who's slowly collected about a dozen inexpensive watches over the past decade or so, especially Seiko 7009 calibre automatics (several of which are surely "Frankenwatch" refurbs). I have been lurking here for a while as I pondered making some repairs myself so I figured it's high time to say hello.

All this extra time at home during the COVID situation has led me to spend a bit more time with my watches... I've been dressing (ahem) rather casually while working from home, so I recently acquired a watch box to make selecting a different watch each day a little easier and give me something fun to look forward to in the morning as a replacement for part of the "morning ritual" that I've lost through working from home. Having done that, I've taken a longer look at some pieces in my collection that need TLC (stuck hands here, micro-cracks in a crystal there) and decided to acquire some watchmaking tools and the know-how to wield them.

I really appreciate the wealth of information available here, especially the willingness of such knowledgeable folks to help out those starting from scratch (or nearly so). My other hobbies tend to be DIY-related, if rather more digital in nature, so I look forward to getting hands on with some of my less precious pieces where the stakes are low.

Anyway, again, thanks!

Welcome from New Jersey. I hear you about the fun of selecting a watch for each day. I’m fortunate to have my office 200’ from my home, so I can even change watches at lunch time! Thanks for an excellent intro.
