Hey guys

This is a mido 1117 pc1 ( AKA   AS1675.)

I am still trying to get this mido to work and i think i know why it ain't winding.

If you look at the picks the barrel bottom has teeth in it i presume to lock into teeth from below to wind the watch. As you can see i have not got that  piece it should lock into to turn it. So i mean in pics 1,2 3 there should be a cog that fits into that gap.

If you know what i am talking about. ( cos i am not sure i do) Please tell me what it is called to see if i can get one.

cheers

gary

You are right, there should be matching gears on mainplate.

The mech is called detached manual wind, in which the winding gear is integrated inside the movement and lets you directly manual wind independent of the selfwinder mech.

I am not sure what the exact term for name of the missing part is,  I guess winding gear, it should be stated on relevent datasheet along with its reference number.

I think if you look at the MIDO 1117PC1 at COUSINSUK you will find when you search for it you
will get the base movement is actually beeing an AS 1673.

So in the AS 1673 tech sheet you will find the parts you looking for like the Part 1417
which AS calls "Ratchet wheel with intermittent drive".
Just to check it is the one I took a look in MATSYS too.

CaseCaliber    BestFit        FactoryNumber    Description
AS 1673        AUT/4290    1417/AS 1656    LOWER RATCHET WHEEL DISC 05/08/97 RC
AS 1673        AUT/4290    7/MIDO 1117P    LOWER RATCHET WHEEL DISC 05/08/97 RC
MID 1117P    AUT/4290    1417/AS 1656    LOWER RATCHET WHEEL DISC 05/08/97 RC
MID 1117P    AUT/4290    7/MIDO 1117P    LOWER RATCHET WHEEL DISC 05/08/97 RC
MID 1117PC    AUT/4290    1417/AS 1656    LOWER RATCHET WHEEL DISC 05/08/97 RC
MID 1117PC    AUT/4290    7/MIDO 1117P    LOWER RATCHET WHEEL DISC 05/08/97 RC

So to have a complete winding system you need to ensure you have the parts 1417, 1423, 1480.

You find the tech sheet for the AS 1673 at COUSINE too.

    • Welcome to the forum, enjoy. I have a varimatic that went  out of sequence because it’s hydronic oil ran very low. Must admit it’s still in my garage just know time to fix it. Purchased a cheap Indian Junta/ sonic Pearl as a stop gap a few years ago and it still performs perfectly so no incentive to fix the Varimatic.
    • The plate is OK, thanks. It seems the answer to my question is that this is a 'hack' & for me another reminder that in general, one won't be the first person to be tinkering with an old timepiece!. As you day, I've been fortunate to have gotten some good advice and, just as important, encouragement. I've been lucky then not to have the balance spring break as a result of my novice 'ministrations' - but I did remember to 'stroke' rather than bend per se. The clock is of sentimental value to the owner so I'm relieved to have now got it running to time with the support & encourage of forum members like yourself.
    • Recently purchased a L&R Varimatic knowing that the piston does not fully rise in the cylinder. The likely cause is air in the system. The manual calls for using a bleeder cup, which is as rare as hen's teeth.Does anyone have any experience with this issue and if so, how did they resolve it?
    • Thanks ww, its maybe not as much of a bodge trick that i thought it was.
    • Thank you for your introduction and welcome to this friendly forum. We all look forward to your contributions and continued involvement.  It would be nice if you told us a little about yourself.
