What is this rotor part for?

Hi All

Hoping to continue my learning from last winter (when work slows enough to allow the hobby) I'm attempting a dis/reassembly of what looks to be an AS 1700 in a Sears Tradition.

On the top of the rotor is a bracket (4th and 5th pic) which is held in by one screw with threads.  The other screw (shown) has no threads and just floats under the bracket (see red arrow) is far as I can tell. Removing this bracket appears to have no effect on the rotor.  What is this thing for (floating screw and bracket)?  Notice that bracket has arrows on it.  Why?

Thank you for any help

Hi @Lc130 - it's always worth looking around the background of a movement and/or the family it comes from.

In this case the history behind Universal Time Corporation (UTC) is that it was set-up by Seiko in order to sell unbranded versions of their movements to manufacturers to build their own watches from.

Ranfft tells us that a UTC 33 = Seiko 6601B so you can instead search around the latter and its family e.g. 6601A ... https://www.cousinsuk.com/PDF/categories/2862_Seiko 2451,6601A.pdf ; 6602B ... https://www.seikoserviceusa.com/uploads/datasheets/6602B.pdf etc. You get the idea!  Good luck! :)

Its a simple way to remove the rotor. Just loosen the screw (the one which does not have the two dimples next to it) and swivel the locking cam. The rotor will lift straight out. It needs to be lifted straight otherwise it will 'jam' , I find that rodico helps. Or you can turn it dial up and tap the case and it should fall downwards.
