  3. I promise, I won't do this to you guys every day but I wanted to do one more "watch of the day" pic:) Below is a beautiful Lord Elgin that I picked up for under 25 dollars. She runs so well, it is typically +/- 0 seconds per day, maybe 1 second off! Beat error is always between 0.2-0.5 with perfect amplitude readings. It sports an Elgin 990 17 Jewel Swiss movement and was serviced prior to my purchase. (this one was very much cared for) Tonight, I will be polishing her up and replacing the crystal.

  4. Hello, Just a little background on me: My Great-grandfather worked at the Dueber-Hampden watch works in Canton Ohio, USA, and went to Moscow to help start First Moscow Watch Factory. I started collecting as a way to keep occupied since being laid off work. that was seven years ago! Fortunately I have been able to adjust to perhaps being 'semi-retired'. I have acquired many watches, both buying and selling on the bay, local 'boot' sales, estates and charity auctions, where ever I can find something unique. Most people know very little about watches, what makes them more sought after and are content to reach for their phones when they are asked 'what time is it'?. I guess I'm old fashioned, I enjoy seeing a watch made with precision/skill be made useful and valuable again. I always wonder who may have owned this before me?! I hope to make new acquaintances through this forum, perhaps share tips or tricks on some favorite models. Regards, Dave

  5. I wasn't over impressed with the heater, so I don't see the point in paying the extra. As I said, first heat up the water in a kettle to the temperature that you require, and the heat generated by the ultrasonics will keep it pretty much where you need it for the duration of the washing. Also remember that even cold water will do, as it is the high frequency vibrations that blast the muck off.

  6. This is what I use and has always given me good results: + and only one machine, the beakers are also part of my equipment but bought separately.

  7. Thanks Mark. I should preface this and other questions I have with the fact that most all my repairs are on my own watches. I do on occasion do some repairs for just one gentleman who sends me broken pocket watches. If I don't know how to repair them or feel I don't have the skill to do it, I let him know and pass on it. He's been really great with me and if I do charge him for anything it's usually very little. Mostly, I work on trade with him, work traded for movements. That sort of thing! I don't want you guys thinking I'm out there pretending to be something I'm not....
