Yes, but I understand that further down there is a spring that holds the cap jewel... Or is that not necessary to pull out?

I have never dealt with a KIF flector but your post sent me on a search to see what I could find ,..which was just more questions . 

It appears that there are 2 parts to this shock system . The clover leaf looking part and the "C" looking ring . 

I don't know for sure , but in some of the pics I found it seems as if part of the leaf part curls around the C part .

There might be a spring underneath that gives it shock protective ability. Whatever you do, use the KIF tool or you will agonize when you try to put it back in place (if you don't lose/break it upon removal).
