Hi guys,

I am having trouble getting this winding pinion out. It's got a funny pin thing on the tip, the pin on the tip will only come out so far then stop. I thought it might be threaded but when its extended it doesn't unscrew? The pin is held onto the main plate by a circle, I've undone all the screws around that area and if it's held on it's only by friction but I can't make that budge either.

Any ideas .. also what is this type of stem called ? I probably will need to order a new one, the movement came without a case, stem, and crown.  But it did come with the original enamel dial which is beautiful. Also the movement is beautify decorated, which is why I bought it.

Sorry for the n00b questions but this is only my second time taking apart a movement. fun times ;-)

Ok so after some googling I think this is a "negative set" movement .. so basically with out the case it's pretty much useless. Well at least it's still a good learning activity and I will still clean and lubricate it just for the experience.

Such a shame...

Hello mate, crack on you're doing well, I've come across these stems on Waltham travellers before, I'll have to look at one in the morning to explain how it comes out etc, if you Google pocketwatch data base you can input the serial number on the plate and it will tell you what type it is and also the size, then you can search eBay etc for a case to fit the movement.

unfortuantly a lot of people decided to sell all the gold pocket watches for the gold, which is crap for us as all we get now is loads of movements without cases, my hunt continues for cases for movements that I have awaiting a new home.
