Seized Bergeon Mainspring winder

I have a size 2 Bergeon mainspring winder that had the handle seized (by rust)  into the mainspring holder. Probably due to the fact its spent the last 15 years sitting in an outside shed in Queensland.

Today with a combination of several cleans in my US machine, brute force and wiggling I have managed to get the handle out. I cleaned the rust of the handle shaft using 1000 grit W&D, but the hole that the shaft is inserted into is still full of surface rust. I am thinking my best option is to use some peg wood charged with 1000 grit carborundum grit mixed with oil and then once finished rinse with Shellite (Ronsol lighter fuel) followed by a rinse in shellite in my US machine.

But before I do this can anyone think of a better way to do this which wont risk abrasive particles being left in the winder?

As it's a good make I think it's worth taking great car to do the job properly.

Get a very accurate reading for the measurement of the hole size needed and buy a quality engineers reamer to run down the bore.

That should take out the rust without affecting the size. Then get a piece of peg wood with oil on it and use that to clean away the surface rust.

Wash it out and job done.

Not sure what size the hole is, but rifle bore brushes in the ,177 or .22 size in stainless steel or brass/bronze. work well. used with a little bore solvent should clean things up nicely...these are made to not damage the rifling or the bore of firearms. then a follow up in your US cleaner...
