6497 Not Working

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have just had a problem with my 6497 and have finally fixed the issue. The click spring had stopped engaging, and I have replaced the click spring and now everything is back in order. When I turn the crown, the mainspring is getting wound (and it stops when it is fully wound), but the balance spring isnt running (the whole watch isnt running, but the way I can tell is that there is no movement).

The movement is on its own and has no dial or hands and is uncased. Any ideas of what may be wrong with it?

No, I had an issue with a different watch (the other one you replied to that is now fixed). I thought that the click springs were the same size, so I pulled the one from my 6497 and tried to use it on the other watch. When it didnt work, I put the 6497 back together (although getting the click spring to function correctly was a real pain in my **BLEEP**), but now the whole thing doesnt seem to work. I will try taking off the mainplate and see if there is something obstructing its ability, but if there isnt, what else could it be?

Thanks

Maybe when you put back the balance you overbanked-it by mistake - sorry if it is a stupid idea, I just want to help. Also check that the pallet engages the anker wheel properly (and lets it go also). Also check the balance wheel staff for proper vertical motion, check the antishock jewels to be centered.

No, not cracked, but off-centered - when you put back the spring over the top jewel the hollowed jewel and it's support might settle at an angle. Highly improbable but easy to check. I happened to me, but I am just an enthusiast.

I would also check for the pivot points in the balance wheel, escape wheel and fork just in case any of them had suffered during reassembly. I remember my first watch I "serviced", I broke one of the pivots in the balance wheel then on my second watch, I broke the balance spring checking to see if the pivots were good! Oh well!

    • if you're trying to keep track of conversations scattered all over the message board emails are an absolute must.   looking at the bell icon on the top of the page versus the emails today it looks like I got the correct amount of emails. So making some minor change based on the one of the images up above I started getting notifications again. But at times I still have a suspicion that something isn't quite right. I have some feeling that the message board may delay sending emails until something so seems to be a long delay between when you get your emails just a weird feeling things aren't quite right oh  and then even though I do seem to be getting emails I no longer get notifications of personal messages I don't find that out until I arrived at the message board where I'm pretty sure I used to get notifications of those two. So something is definitely changed on the message board. then for everyone not getting emails you do want to check your spam folder. I have found that sometimes were open up an email the system I use warns me that it thinks the email is evil and bad and I have no idea why he thinks some of the emails are and some are not. But this is actually the program I use not the email system which also has a mind of its own as to what it considers spam so you should always check your spam folder.
