Strange behavior in rete

Recommended Posts

This is my chinese GMT Matster homage watch wearing it all day long now for 3-4 months. Inside is a DG2813 with nonadjustable 24h hand and date complications. Serviced myself, which does not men it is properly done :) Moreover, it has built-in autowinding mechanism which means i have to align 5 pinions properly at the same time. So, it was tricky putting it together. Also broke one of the icabloc springs which i replaced with a different shaped one.

The problem is that the watch is keeping excellent time for 3-4 weeks and then comes a big loss in the rate. Then i adjust the hairspring preload. This happened 3-4 times as i remember. Last week it made -2,5 s/d in average, deviation was ~15 s/d. Now today it fell down to -80 - -100 s/d. What can do such sudden jumps in the rate? Watch seems healthy.

Its a strange one as the amplitude is good. When you fitted the shock spring did you check it is secure i.e. holding the cap jewel in all positions.

How can i check the cap jewel? It was ok as i remember.

But it seems that it is more stable now in the different positions.

You adjusted what? There is no preload in the airspring. If the rate changes that means the effective hairspring length has changed.

Ah sorry, not perfect in english, google suggested me "preload"  I wanted to say "effective hairspring length".

The regulator is hard to move, i am sure it couldnt not move.

It must move, otherwise the rate can't be regulated. Also, if it has an etachron style pin, that is used for regulation and adjustment also.

No etachron pin, simple as possible movement. ?i=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ofrei.com%2Fimages%2

Meanwhile made more measurements and now it has simply no deviation in rate in the different positions. Day before yesterday i had this report:

It seems that the jewel or the bridge was moved indeed. Maybe the balance was not touching the cap jewels with both ends.

Assembled the measuring system this week and now i see strange things :)

    • I have removed the stem and open the case. The Movement can't drop out but it can be rotate Anyone has idea THANK YOU
    • Not a family member, and yes, it no way near as good, as some information got lost from original site and some information got incorrectly copied. The original site is available as iOS app here: https://apps.apple.com/fi/app/ranfft-watch-movements-archive/id6502008939
    • Outstanding, Marc! Your information is really helpful and clears this up, especially given that yours were purchased as sets. Thanks, man. So, it appears I jumped the gun on this one, but I am relieved. I will say, though, that all of my reamers and concave pushers are number-stamped and appear to be of better quality.  Also, the bayonets on my pushers are actually the same color as the steel.  The next thing to do is restore the heads of these pushers with some polishing paper.  Alex at the Watch Repair channel has a nice little video on this.   I appreciate your help! • Just installed it on my iPhone (my only iOS device) and it appears to be intact and functional. I may have to go out and buy myself an ipad just for this app.
    • I have two Seitz sets, one ancient (with the 3mm anvils) and one just old (with 4mm anvils) plus a collection of spare pushers of assorted vintage. Not one of them is marked with it's size. Something which I have found very irritating when I have been using the tool and not returning pushers to their correct place in the tray every time as it means that I have to get the calipers out and measure them. These were bought as sets and collectively I have over 100 pushers so it would seem highly unlikely (if not inconceivable) that they are all cheap knock offs, especially as they are old enough to pre-date the prevalence of the Chinese knock off industry (at least as applied to watch making tools). I therefore believe them to be original Seitz parts. And there is no numbering. The shape of the bottom of the pump pushers is the same as your photo. The only thing that may not be the same is that the slotted insert (looks like a screw but is in fact a bayonet) should be brass. Yours looks the same colour as the steel but that could just be the lighting.
