Hi all, I'm almost ready to make my first attempt at watch repair. My initial goals are very modest, just to get an inexpensive watch or two to work on, and take it at my own pace. I have what I think are the necessary tools on the way. A couple of things arrived already: a loupe, some tweezers, and a cheap demagnetizer. After looking at the options for oils and grease, I decided to start off with Citizen A-O2 and A-O3 oil, and Seiko S-3 grease. The Moebius was just too pricey to buy this early into the undertaking, when added to the cost of the other tools I've bought. Screwdrivers are Kwong Yuen for now, but I took the frequent advice on tweezers and bought Dumostar 3C and will probably add more DuMont later.

I'm looking forward to making a start. I'll need a watch to work on, so I'm trying to line up an auction purchase within the next week. I've been mostly looking at Seiko and Citizen, and will perhaps a Seiko Crown if I can land one at a decent price.

Thank you!

Oh and too late to edit out some typos, but "will perhaps a Seiko Crown" was supposed to be "will perhaps get a Seiko Crown". And I realize now that A-O3 should be AO-3.

Welcome to the forum.

My advice would be to start with something cheap and simple that has parts and service information readily available, unlike the Seiko Crown.

Hi any low range Seiko will be ok 7009 7005 etc  ther is plenty of documentation on then. Likewise the Russian watches. Slava. Racketa etc. try and get a working watch  then when you have finished working on it if it doesn’t work you know that it’s your fault and more practice to fixit., attached a little document for you

Thanks. I have just bought 3 watches that will be here in a few days. A Citizen Center Second, a Seiko Laurel, and a Seiko Crown. The Crown and the Citizen were (equiv.) $30 and $20 respectively, so cheap enough for me that I can live with myself if something goes wrong with my process.

I have to wait for some of the tools to trickle in from China, in particular the movement holder and screwdrivers, and then I should be ready to make a start.

Just to add, I'm not intending to rush at them all at once, of course. I stockpiled a few as I don't know how easily I can find those models at those prices here (Japan). I'm sure that now I have several projects' worth, for who knows how many months, I can be much more relaxed in the search for future projects.
