Regulating A Eta 2824

Recommended Posts

Folks- I just serviced one of my old eta 2824 driven watches that was losing alot of time.

Before I started the service in the watch, and with a full wind, the average specs were:

-2 s/d, amplitude: 240, and beat error: .3

Lift angle set at :  53

So after the service I am getting the following:

Dial up:  +2 s/d, amp 296, .2 b/e

Dial down: -3, amp 310, .1 b/e

Crown up: - -4, amp 270, .1 b/e

Crown down: -2, amp 280, .1 b/e

Overall, after a few days of wearing I seem to be losing about 2 seconds/day.

I am not too concerned with the loss in seconds but what I am a bit concerned with is the variance between the Dial up and Dial Down readings.

What are your thoughts?  Are these readings indicative of anything major ?

I did use the recommended oils in the proper locations and dropped in a new ETA mainspring.

Thanks for your observations.

That's not bad, I would check the pivots of the b/staff make sure they are in good order, make sure the incabloc is correct and seated, jewel holes good. No marks under the balance cock, some repairers would make marks under the cock to raze the cock.

That is actually excellent, with a maximum variation of 6 seconds are COSC specs. Textbooks used to indicate 10 sec/day variation as "natural error". You would find worst that you in movements new from manufacturer.
