Gasket Lubrication

I have to fit a new rubber gasket to an Omega Quartz watch back.

 

Would it be beneficial to smear the merest amount of silicon grease on it before reassembly or would this have some detrimental affect in the long term.

This what I use most of the time. Put the seal in it give it a twist & it,s lubed.

Clockboy I just ordered one of those following your advice then happened to look at my oils and greases and found i already had one.

I have 2 of those too! Sometimes it is not enough to have just one otherwise what other excuse would I have to provoke an argument with the wife! :)
