See, making new staff takes me 30 minutes and I often say that pocket watch with broken balance staff and no other problems is actially watch without problems. So fixing ypu watch is a piece of cake. Just lathe is needed and skills for working on it -
Yours is a 1010 with Date only. The left Date Disc is for a 1020 for a Day Disc in the centre. Also looks like your Date Disc is none original due to staggered teeth. -

It a new watch , a half decent make and a gift, honestly i would leave it well alone until you have worked on a lot more mechanical watches. You could make a big mistake here by opening it up and poking inside it. A quartz swap is not in the same league as working on mechanical , get some practice under your belt first. -
Those who have replated watches, can you tell me what you do with the old plating inside the case?  Obviously the ideal would be to strip the case fully back inside and out to give a continuous surface for plating but this is hard to do on the internal surfaces. I was thinking of running a small mounted wirebrush on a Dremel around the inside to remove anything loose and plate over the top of the existing plate. -

A part of the keyless works is placed in the case of the watch, Murks. This movement doesn't work normally without it's case. Put the movement in the case and if the sleeve is regulated properly, everything will be OK.
