ETA 2824 or Something else?

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a vintage Techno's watch that is marked as an ETA 2824 movement. I purchased this watch just for the movement to use in a mod watch project.

I performed a service on the watch and in the process lost a date jumper spring. When I went searching for the 2824 date jumper spring I found my movement didn't match what was available. After digging around I found the date jumper spring that I needed was from a 2783 movement. Today I tried fitting a new stem for a 2824 movement and also found that this does not fit. It appears there are slight differences in thickness for the ends of the stems in the watch currently vs. the 2824 I ordered. Now I am wondering if I have a fake, franken or some weird vintage of ETA 2824.

Would appreciate any insight as what I have found is if it is a 2783 movement it may not work for my project. I have attached pictures of the movement showing 2824 on the plate and the front date along with the two stems. The stem with the crown is the current one.

I suspect that you have an example of the original 2824. Since then there has been a 2824-1, a 2824-2, a 2824-A2, and a 2824R (according to the Jules Borel interchange site.

The original 2824 did use the same date jumper spring as the 2783, the other variants did not. The original also used a different stem to the later variants.

So neither a Franken nor anything weird, you simply have the original.
