9ct Gold Cushion Watch Circa 1949. Hand Made Etchings on Case Back and Front. Why?

Recommended Posts

Dear all,

I hope this finds you well.

I have the attached watch and was wondering what the scribes/etchings, were intended for.

Could they be to ensure both parts are a pair?

Could it be to show that the gold is not plated?

Wondered what the real reason is as I am only able to guess.

Any help on the subject would be gratefully received.

All the best, Steven.

Regarding the attached picture. This comprises of two images.

Image 1 - shows the upturned face, the etchings to which I refer are at the 12:00 position when viewing the image but at the 6:30 position once the face is attached to the body.

Image 2 - shows the watch with the face removed. The etchings are at the 6:30 position.

Many thanks for taking the time to look/respond to this query.
