Making A Watch Bushing

Find below a vid on making watch barrel arbour bushing. Interesting techniques with the graver especially how he uses the graver to get a dead parallel cut. Noticed though the final drill (when it parts the bushing) does not go completely through hence the broaching required for the final, final fit. This technique is how I make my custom bushings for clocks.

As an engineer, it never fails to amaze me seeing gravers used like that. It looks more akin to wood turning than metal turning. I still use a cross slide and tailstock, just because that's what I know best.

The part that he makes look easy I struggle with Is the parting off. I always have to turn the almost finished bushing around & finish this part to get a nice finish. I wish I had a tailstock I could rely on (mine is out end to end & touch) then centre drilling would be so much easier.
