How old is this watch? Ingersoll 'Dollar' pocket watch

Recommended Posts

I've been working on this watch for a whille which was in very poor condition when I got it, caked with solid oil. It is now running pretty smoothly and I'm close to completing it. I have been trying to get an idea how iold it is. The only number on the movement is '55' and from my searching I think it might be from the 1920s. Any thoughts?IMG_1894.thumb.JPG.2eb80b36506b68188aa80ec0cbabdb8a.JPG

Hi @Edifred

I've used some lateral thinking and gone Sherlock for you.

Note the 170 Regent Street address for you watch.

Here's an advert from 1919 clearly showing that address:

Now forward to an advert put at 1922 (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/INGERSOLL-Radiolite-Pocket-Watches-Xmas-Advert-Original-Antique-1922-Print/154979300906?hash=item24157c762a)

They've moved address by the time of this advert.

I think your guess at (early) 1920s is pretty good based on this!
