Washing machine watch

Recommended Posts

I have been given a watch by a family member which accidentally got left in a dressing gown pocket and was put through the washing machine.

It is an old watch (ladies) - possibly 1920s or earlier - in a rose gold Dennison case. The movement is swiss with an enamel dial. The only info on the movement is an inscription saying Terminus on the wheel train bridge and an inscription saying swiss made on the barrel bridge.

The centre wheel and has lost its pivot which has broken off in the cannon pinion. The second wheel has a broken pivot. The balance has lost the jewel but the balance wheel looks ok.

Is there any chance of finding replacements for these ... or am I realistically looking at finding a replacement movement for the case?

For as nice the watch could be you need to post a clear picture of the mov.t alone, both sides, plus it's basic sizes, to help others help you identify it.

Looks like an Aurore Villeret 233. Look under the balance wheel, there might (ought to) be a shield symbol with AV in it, and perhaps the caliber. Doesn't seem very common, Ranfft doesn't list it.

They didn't always mark them with the actual maker's mark. The image from the book says 20-22.25mm, your movement as listed is 9 3/4 ligne, which is 21.99mm. Names on the bridges or dial will almost never be connected to the actual movement maker.

Thanks for the clarification ... that makes absolute sense.
