While clearing out my Dad's workroom we found two lathes and assumed they were both watchmakers lathes but having read some of your comments I'm now wondering whether the one we still have is a mini lathe. The other one was a STAR Swiss made Watchmakers Lathe almost the same as those on Cousins UK website so that was definitely a watchmakers lathe.

Can anyone advise if this is this Lorch, Schmidt & Co. 6mm Lathe a mini lathe or watchmakers lathe?

That is a very good Watchmakers lathe with loads of accessories and worth a lot of money. Do you have the motor for it or is it missing. No worries if the motor is missing. A motor can easily be bought.

Thanks for that. I'm learning all the time 😉🤣 Hilariously (or frighteningly) we thought he had three lathes until we started investigating this box and wondered what the "other lathe" was on the workbench and then realised it was part of this kit!

oldhippy, there is a motor that was part of the set up on the workbench, which works although presuming it would have been bought separately. We were going to sell the whole lot together as a complete kit but the post office have a list of prohibited items including Magnetised Items so we need to do more investigation although maybe some of you can advise:

"Magnetised material with a field strength of 0.418A/metre or more at a distance of 4.6 metres from the outside of the package" are not allowed in the post.

"Magnetised material with a field strength of less than 0.418A/metre at a distance of 4.6 metres from the outside of the package" is allowed.

Don't bother with the post office. How about using someone such as Yodel. If you are thinking of selling you could try ebay or take it to an auction house, if you do that find out the fees and better still take it to around 3 places for prices it should go for. If there is one that specialise in all things horology that would be the one to go for.
