Quick Advice :) Timegraph

Hey guys, yes its me .....again :)

 

After Reassembling a rather lovely Zenith movement i put her on the timegrapher to see this result ?

 

 

I was thinking maybe the escape wheel is running untrue but i could be way off the mark. Can anyone give me some idea as to where to look given the state of the above graph ?

 

It is rather erratic, and although i can read most errors im a bit unstuck/unsure with this one ( scratches head furiously ).

Well worth a try, but I would have expected it to run fast rather than slow if it was magnetised.

Is the balance spring distorted an touching the balance wheel, has the escapement has been properly lubricated and are the balance jewels are OK?

I have de-magnetized the movement and all parts seem fine, even the roller jewel is almost perfect between the pins ( ? ). The jewels are also fine, which is why im confused to the lines ?

 

The hairspring is not hung up nor sticky, the pallets are good, the wheel pivots are true. I get the feeling im missing something obvious but im lost as to what or where ?!?

 

I have looked over the thread on timegraphers thx ro63 but nothing there stands out to me :(

Could the roller jewel be very slight slack in the roller? This could cause a lot of extra noise and reduce the impulse resulting in slightly reduced amplitude.

I will take the escapement apart tomorrow morning and inspect it under my microscope for a deeper look, also give everything a re clean in some degreaser. Good thought there Geo , did not think about the roller jewel being loose.

 

I never pick an easy job, when will i learn ha ha :)

Well after stripping the escapement down i discovered ( with the aid of my microscope :) ) there was some hardened oil/grease within two of the jewel holes ( balance and pallet ). It was quite stubborn but after a good de grease of the entire escapement the watch now runs within +- 20-30 secs and the beat error is down from 6.00+ to just 1.0 -1.1 , i can happily live with that for a watch that is 70+ years old :)

 

The watch originally was badly water damaged with alot of rust reaching nearly every part of the movement, so to have it running at all after the original condition i can say im pleased with the outcome. The timegraph result initially had me thinking it was a bent escape wheel pivot, but turns out it was just super hardcore crud , albeit micro hardcore crud ha ha.  

 

Since i know you guys like your pictures i figured you'd like to see the watch in question, she just needs a new strap and then shes done :D

Funny to think that id overlook one of the basics of it being just dirt.... ( slaps forehead )

Thanks guys, she is a stunning but simple piece. Hopefully it will keep going another 70 years :)

 

I think from now on im gonna be using my microscope a bit more, i just figured that after going through two different cleaning machines and cleaning 90% by hand that all the dirt had gone, how wrong lol.
