More clock questions as I am still getting used to what certain brands cost

 The dial would originally just be pinned to the case, they get loose and fall out, and that is why it has been screwed.

Fair enough, but why wouldn’t you use the first holes? And before you say it, fill the original holes that have logged out where the pins went and refill them for screws.

 I suppose the holes could be fixed much the same as bushing a pivot hole in a movement. Just with a solid piece of brass though?

Different people have different ways. You won't know what the holes are like until you remove the dial. I suppose the wood might have split.
