Mystery Tool and A whole Lot of Other Stuff

Just landed a good deal on Kijiji for a lot of tools all for $175. The jeweled Seitz ruler alone is $250+.

So the question is this strange vise? What is it an how is it installed?

Nice haul.

Looks like a case clamp?  You would typically put stumps in the holes to fit around the case then tighten it up.

It was a very nice haul, thanks.  I think you are correct.  Not sure how to mount the bottom on a bench.

Hi  I would agree with that definition. The ones I have seen are mounted on a wooden handle and are hand held.

That makes sense.  But hand held for what task?

From what I remember it was a grip used by jewelers probably for hand filing and probably used by watchmakers for the same task. If I come across any info in my peramblulations I will pass it on.    cheers

Hi JD  Found these pics  apparently used by jewelers  for hand engraving, a long lost skill now with pantograph and laser jobs.

So I think this is an old roller table remover that works in a staking set. The nurrled nut closes the jaws

If I may hijack this thread, I've also got a mystery tool, it may not even be watch related.

It's spring loaded, pressing the back opens the jaws, releasing it closes them.

Pocket watch universal winder for square pegs?

Screw holder?

Any ideas?

Yes, universal key for key-wound pocket watches. Not very reliable working.

Hi as stated pocket watch key (universal)  got one  never used it I have a set of keys.
