Balance Staff Replacement.

The only way really is to use is a staking set/tool. To remove the old staff there is a tool (see pic) that fits into the staking tool which is spring loaded and when depressed brakes the rivet of the balance. I used to use this on pocket watches so I know it works really well. If you have not got these tools then I would not attempt. The other way is to find the same movement on eBay & swop the staff & balance.

As Clockboy said, you will require the correct tools, you will also require knowledge and a delicate touch. There is no easy fix for fitting a balance staff. :(

Thanks, both, for your replies.

I've thought of another possible answer.

Amongst all of you experienced people out there, there has to be someone that has the knowledge and equipment to replace the staff on my behalf.

So, for a fee, (Not talking about a holiday for two in the Bahamas!) is there someone that would be willing to do this for me?

If a donation to a charity is preferred, that's fine.

All costs involved (including risk) will be my responsibility.

The new staff should, with a bit of luck, be with me tomorrow. (March 11th)

Well...............!
