Hi hope someone can advise me, I have a 400 day clock and looking for a new spring wire unit,I have the 400 day clock repair guide and think something in the book is got a error in finding the correct strength wire unit and length, the plate number for my clock is a s Haller plate 1521 miniature clock, spring 0022 056mm the unit for this clock is a 43 43a for a better fork type but when you make the unit for this plate the size of unit in much longer spring length,I find the correct size length for my clock and it is asking for plate number 1522 what is not the same model but correct length size of spring on this model is 0018 046mm unit 43/43a/44/44a can someone advise for correct spring strength wire I should purchase, thank you,

Hi

Do I understand you correctly, you are making up the suspension spring for this clock, using the information in the 400 day repair guide book by Twilnger(spelt wrong I suspect).

For this book to be correct, you must use Horolovar springs, no other make will work correctly.  This is to do with the way Horolovar springs are made, other makes are made differently.

Horolovar springs come in only 2 lengths, the lengths given assume the support columns are correctly assembled, the spring will almost certainly need cutting down.

Once the clock is running, set the pendulum to mid adjustment, then note how fast or slow it is running, if this can be corrected by adjustment, then good.

If not, then changing the spring thickness alters the beat timing for the clock.

Bod.
