7S26 balance collet

The collet has a horizontal slot retaining the hairspring. Is it held on by glue or press fit.

The collet comes with open slot, HS is placed in the slot and closed.

Normally press fitted, but very old watches can be held in with shellac, I have seen many pocket watches with it.

How about using high tech stuff like superglue. Some super- glue has 9 seconds timeframe

I would be careful with that, you do not know how such stuff when in contact with the hairspring it might cause damage

As mentioned in similar topics before one can't, in practice, do any manipulation 7S26 hairspring collet. It is set at the factory and meant to stay like that for life. So in case of any problem the balance complete must be replaced.

I have seen nail polish used as glue on collet-staff, no sign of lacquor damage to metals 50 yrs later.

Recent experience with a 7S26 hairspring collet had a drop of shellac holding the collet to the hairspring. Clear as the day.
