Tips for my 7002-7009

Recommended Posts

Hi all.  I have a 7002-7009 that I bought second hand in 1994 (it was manufactured in 1990). It still works quite well and the exterior is in good shape but to my knowledge it has never been serviced.  I would like to clean it up a bit, replace all the gaskets/seals, and maybe put a stainless bracelet on it and, if I'm going to open it up, maybe a new crystal. What maintenance should I consider performing on it? I live in Tokyo and approached Seiko about servicing it here and they told me the service would cost more than buying a new watch.

Can you tell me where you are getting parts for yours and maybe direct me to a website for mods for the 7002-7009.  It has the standard 22mm lugs but I am not sure that the seiko jubilee bracelet for the SKX will fit on it.  I would also consider dropping in a new movement but Im not sure if any of the newer seiko movements will fit in my case.  Thanks for any info and directions to online resources.

Basically all parts that fits the SKX007 fits your older diver. That being said I would leave undisturbed and maybe get another one on Yahoo auctions, good deals can be had for as little 15,000 JPY.

thanks, JDM.   When you said to pick up another one, did you mean another 7002-7009 or were you suggesting I upgrade to and SKX (which I am inclined to do).

There are so many affordable seiko (and other brands) diver's, quartz, automatic, or kinetic. And the dress models are nice too. Being in Japan you can get these without additional purchase and reshipping fees, just choose what makes you happy.,

    • On the link that I posted, ne of the watches has no crown and another has an a crown that is not square to the case. Does a broken crown signify that the movement may be quite corroded, hence the stem has broken,  and does the bent crown simply signify that the stem is bent? Unfortunately as the seller has a bid on the items, he is now reticent to prise the casebacks off in case he damages something. The seller did reply with this email though. Hi again Michael - brief descriptions; Oris x 2, dials and hands ok and they set ok and one I just wound and it has been running for a few of minutes as I write this response. Rocar, dial ok no crown. No name dial no good and can't pull crown out to set. Roma dial and hands ok, I think it is pin pallet movement. Unicorn, good dial and hands and plexiglass ok for age. All cases and plexiglasses show wear except as mentioned. I have no idea what movements are fitted or condition so please if you do consider bidding, please do so accordingly as I don't like to disappoint my customers - regards and thanks again for your interest - Jim
    • The incomplete Vertex DD is a new project to sort out.  The Seiko gen 1, is my favourite watch to wear and is my daily.
    • To be fair it was a beautiful 'bumper'.  But, there was some loose parts in the case.  Perhaps 'pig' was a bit excessive 😄.
