Omega 861 Chronograph

Hello everyone,

I just received an omega 861 chronograph in for service that needs a new pusher and also to be cleaned. When I was in school they never taught chronographs and this is my first I have ever received. So my question is, since there isn't a walk through video, how hard is this chronograph to service? I really want to service this, but I dont want to get in to deep with this. Should i just have them send it to a service center or should i tackle it?

If not confident then send it back. Chronographs are more complicated not only are there more parts to clean and assemble they often need adjusting and the installation of the hands in the correct position is also fiddly without the correct movement holder. Personally I don't like working on them but have in the past for family.

This is like asking how long a piece of string is.

These movements should only be serviced by watch repairs/makers with advanced skill. An apprentice watch repairer/maker would only start working on these movements as an improver, that would be after 5 years as an apprentice.

What they all said! There are a few Omega specialists about as well as Omega themselves of course. If you want to service chrono’s I’d pick a few cheaper ones up to cut your teeth on.
