I had a nice wee change today, a friend asked me to see if I could get his fathers old Elliot clock running. It could probably do with a complete strip and clean, but I'm way too busy to do that just now.
It was an easy fix to get it going, both the crutch and the pendulum needed a slight bit of tweeking. Someone has been at it in the past, and was a bit heavy handed. The crutch required very little bending to sort, but the twist and bend in the pendulum required a little more effort.
The Westminster chimes wouldn't work because one of the actuating levers that is driven from a cam was completely in the wrong place. It was an easy fix, after I worked out how it should operate. Another issue was someone had bent the click spring on the right hand barrel, thus preventing the chimes barrel from being wound. Again it was an easy fix. When the movement was fitted back in the case, I tweeked the hammers to get a nice clear sound.
After a touch of oil in the relevant places, it's now ticking away and chiming as it should!
