Hello,

I have a Nike Heritage Chronograph WC0052. Not a luxury watch, but one I really do like.
The issue I have is the band (silicone or rubber) is broken on both sides of the plastic holding frame that connects to the case. Of course it is a nike custom design and no repair option is available anymore.

Is there a way I can replace the band with something more regular (fittings that would hold pins for a new band) or replace the case with a more conventional one? I'm clueless on how to find the adequate sized and configuration for a case.

The Movement is a Miyota 0890. The face is about 42 mm in diameter.

Thanks most kindly for any help!

I'm assuming this is a one off request for help rather than joining the forum due to an interest in horology and watch repair.

I will be very surprised if you can find any ready made adaptor to allow you to fit a regular type of strap to this watch.  Possibly searching on EBay you may come across a suitable strap or a broken or damaged watch that you could liberate the strap from.

These straps are like rocking horse manure and pretty unique. They must appear for sale occasionally - a leather one sold for $70 on eBay in February.

You might be bale to get Steveostraps to make something (google him) from the old one.

It would depend upon how the strap attaches to the case. Based on what I can see, my hope would be that you can remove the caseback and then slide the band off with some kind of tongue and groove fitment. If that's the case, my inclination would be to 3D model a piece that would slide in as an adapter and can accept standard bands with springbars and then 3D print it. Once you have a design that works, send your design off to one of the places that can 3D print in metal to have them create a more attractive and durable long-term piece.

A couple that does Youtube videos on making stuff called "Evan and Katlyn"  went through this process in a series of videos a few months ago for making a custom folding knife. They have lots of guidance about the process in those videos.

Good luck!

Having seen the picture of the strap alone, I'm more confident in the "3D print an adapter" approach. If enough of these were sold, it might make for a decent side hustle.

It's certainly possible, but unless you get lucky and the movement is a common one, or it's a standard size, finding the right case could be a challenge. I'd be particularly concerned with the fact that is has that inner bezel, which will have to fit very cleanly into the new case, or may even be integrated into the existing case. Then of course you have to deal with not just the stem and crown, but also the chrono pushers. All in all, the odds of finding something off the shelf that works well are small.

Here's a chart that will help you convert mm measurements to ligne, which is what many watch cases use to state what movements they can accommodate are: https://cwrnh.com/watch-movement-size-conversion-chart/

Good luck with the search if you decide to go that way!

I was able to locate a new old-stock Nike band for my WC0053 thru www.parsecent.com. I confirmed with customer service that this they had the black rubber strap via email, so I went ahead and ordered the strap.

I had spoken with Hope @ 309-689-6531 ext. 11. I've attached the images that she had sent to me too.

    • Hello, looking forward to participating on the forum here! I will mostly be listening and asking questions since I am an amateur hobbyist. I have most of the beginner hand tools and a Timegrapher. The extent of my tinkering consists of a successful Seiko 7S26 to NH36 movement swap inside an all original 1997 SKX007, along with a bunch of battery changes for friends and family. I have yet to tackle full disassembly and cleaning. Right now, I don't really have the budget or time to invest in a cleaning setup (even manual cleaning), but hopefully soon! I joined because I recently purchased a mechanical Timex Camper from 1994, and my searches for information regarding servicing and swapping out these Timex mechanical movements consistently led me to Watch Repair Talk. There is also a wealth of knowledge here about dial design, another area of interest for me. My other hobbies includes leather working (mostly small pieces, shoes eventually), crochet, sewing (would love to make clothing), design (especially type design), home espresso, cocktails, and tennis. I want to buy a film camera, but I don't need yet another expensive hobby involving last-century technology. Yes, I have ADHD.
