looking for source - ebel model 1157111 gasket

I am replacing battery on my wife's lovely Ebel ladies wave and the gasket on the bezel is shot.

Model # 1157111

My Dad was the Ebel service agency in Phila but he is gone and I'm stuck looking for a new gasket.

Ideas on source for gasket or even part number?

Ebel parts are very difficult to get why must it be Ebel ? Its just a round gasket that fits in a groove at the back of the bezel its not a fancy shaped gasket so it should be possible to fit a generic Swiss gasket.

Measure the o-ring groove ID and the o-ring cross section and then visit www.mcmaster.com and search for O-rings.

Note they have Metric which are easy and the US (Parker) standard numbering system for the "inch" ones. Get your measurement converted inches and mm and search both (exactly 25.4mm per inch conversion).

Another thing is that the smallest cross section is 1mm, so if it's a thin 0.5mm o-ring you have to search/ask the watch supply houses, which will cost more.

thanks all...I guess I am a bit of a snob as I was trained to use genuine parts whenever possible.   But you are all right and a generic gasket will work well.   I have ordered a set of various sizes hoping one will fit.

so when I go to referenced website, there are a zillion choices for material of O ring....can you be more specific?

there books and books on o rings,  both metric and inch.   the o ring groves diffrer depending on its use.  the material differs also depends on use.  temperture,  solubility,  age of material formula, etc..   i don't know of any designed for watched.   they worked great on radial engines.   vin

    • When faced with say a pocket watch bridge which is cracked, silver soldering to repair is often the only option (hopefully someone wasn't there before hand with soft solder). I can generally do this succesfully and tidily with a small torch and miniscule pieces of silver solder, but on parts which were mercury amalgam gilded the heat can have have a deleterious effect on the finish.   I keep wondering if there's a good way to refinish these - and despite having the needful items would rather avoid using the mercury process.   In the past for electronic work I've gold plated PCBs but this involved gold potassium cyanide solution, which also doesn't realy belong at home. I've read that there are now safer alternatives but couldn't find more detail (and importantly how similar are the results to amalgam gilding, since I wouldn't want to refinish the whole watch). Pointers would be very welcome (and yes, I know solutions containing gold won't be cheap!) Alan

    • When building a new Watch I have tended to use a file to remove the remnants of dial feet that are not needed as many dials come with four feet to accomodate different movements, but this can be a bit messy so now I use this with a great deal more precision as you can use an appropriate bit for the job and keep it very localised.
