Need movement installed in Rolex 15505 Date (3035)

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Does anybody here do mercenary work on Rolexes or can direct me to someone who does?  I have a Rolex Date 15505 with no movement.  I was told it takes the Rolex 3035 movement or an ETA 2836 can work with modifications.  My local watch shops won't rig an ETA and there are no (reasonable) 3035 movements available.

I don't have time to learn another hobby and don't want to fix it myself.

I am in the Chicago area but can ship it.

Thanks

Casing an ETA2836 in a 15505 sounds a little weird but if you do you must know that you'll have to :
1 - get a custom made movement retainer (3035 is 28.5mm and 3836 is 26mm)
2 - get a set of NON Rolex hands because a 2836 (H:1.50/M:0.90/S:0.25) won't accept the hands of a 3035 (H:1.40/M:1.00/S:0.18)
3 - modify your 15505 dial so that it can go on a 3836 movement
4 - etc ...
Then you'll have a fully (possibly) working NON Rolex 15505.

If I were in USA I would accept the challenge of putting an Eta2836 in your watch.

If I were you I would wait and search the auctions ... sometimes 3035 movements show up for an almost fair price.
Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the extensive info manodeoro.

I found a Rolex 3135 movement, would this fit / work in my 15505 Date?  What modifications would be needed?

Also, is there a better ETA movement to replace the 3035 that doesn't need the custom movement container etc.?

Again, any and all info is appreciated.  Where are you located (France, Neuchatel, Basel)?

3135 caliber, being, basically, an evolution of the 3035, I would say that no modification or adaptation would be needed and even the original 3035 hands should fit perfectly.
About putting an ETA in a Rolex, may I say, once again, that it's NOT a good idea.
Doing that you would create a monster, an hybrid watch of virtually no value, and sorry to say that I was just kidding when offering to take the challenge (I'm just a watch lover and work on my own watches only).
I'm 99% certain that you can find find a good horologist in Chicago that will agree to put your 3135 movement in your 15505.
And the result will a watch of some value, even if the movement won't be period correct.
Have a good day.
