Seiko quartz crown in Europe

Recommended Posts

I'm restoring a Seiko 6530-5090 for a friend, the watch was her father's, and has sentimental value.

I've sourced everything except the crown, which needs replacing (overall poor condition, plus the seal seems to have swollen and doesn't fit back on the case properly.

I've found the parts listing on Borel.

However, I can't seem to find this part, or the J alternative, outside the US, specifically Ofrei (the shipping cost makes it quite expensive)  http://www.ofrei.com/page_115.html

Any ideas on finding a suitable crown for a decent price in Europe?

Have you checked cousinsuk? Maybe Stefan radymski in England could help you. Send me a PM if you want his email adress.

I'm not a Seiko expert but if you do an ebay search for item 132505656524 then this says that a 6530-5420 crown will also fit a whole bunch of other Seiko case references ... including your 6530-5090.

Assuming you're actually looking for a 'yellow' crown then, as rogart63 suggests, CousinsUK is a good place to start and indeed they list a 6530-5420 gold plated crown for a Seiko.

An alternative source could be http://www.nwcsupplies.com. If you navigate to Named Crowns -> Seiko Crowns you'll see they have 430 listed! It's not the most user friendly website so I'll let you see if they have what you need.

Weird, I don't find that part number in any other lookups, where did you see the case reference for this? (checked boley & julesborel). I find 35R34NS1/35R34NA1 for the 5090 case (which certainly is cross referenced on many other cases). For 3 gbp, it's probably worth a shot either way, and I regularly order from cousins anyways, so the shipping is worth it.

Sorry I re-read your comment, you were getting that from the eBay listing, makes sense now. It looks like this is a potential solution...I'll order it and give it a go from Cousins!

Thanks to all for the ideas, definitely more resources for future Seiko parts searches.

    • Hello, I am working on a eta 2970-1 and as soon as I screw down the rotor, the watch stops. The watch runs great without the automatic bridge, when I attach the automatic bridge, it continues to run well, but as soon as I attach the main rotor the watch stops. Can anyone please share schematics or pictures of the automatic bridge? I have looked up a few pictures online and it looks like I have assembled the bridge correctly after cleaning, but the fact that the watch stops as soon as the rotor puts counter pressure on the bridge, points me that there js something wrong with the automatic bridge. Thank you.

    • I think you are right wish one of the two spring should make contact do you know what one?
    • So I was cleaning an especially dirty balance spring with B-dip because several turns were sticking together.  However, after a wash and dry, it seems there are more turns sticking due to the B-Dip.  I can see it clearly in-between the spring turns and it is not evaporating.  I even stretched the spring upwards a bit to let them air out and they continue to stick.  This is after two washes.  You can still see the liquid between the springs. Not sure if anyone has seen this, but I don't know if this is an indicator of my dip going bad or being contaminated.  I would rise with IPA, but the stud and collet aren't pinned--they are either glued or shellacked so I won't risk it.  If I keep seeing this, I'll probably switch back to a heptane or naphtha for this type of cleaning, but I wanted to see if anyone else has seen this with B-Dip.
