It's always worth a look, you never know what will turn up. I managed to replace my fathers old silver fusee watch many years ago with an Identical one from a charity shop. I threw his away when I was seven because I was too frightened that he would find out that I broke the hands off. I was forty seven when I replaced it and told him the story!

We've got two charity shops in our village - but I've never seen a watch of any kind in them, or in any other for that matter. Perhaps I've been unlucky!

Only ever seen the occasional rubbish quartz. Rumour has it that most of the big name shops are well aware of anything remotely valuable and dispose of it in other ways.

I found (or rather my wife found) a Mint copy of "Cooksey Shugart Complete Watches" in a charity shop in Stratford on Avon for the princely price of £1.95 (plus a small additional donation to allay feelings of guilt at getting it so cheap).  I always have a look at the books despite being an avid kindle user.  Have seen a few watches but up to now, none I would want to toy with, but you never can tell what the future holds.
