Look at this wonderful clock a fantastic piece of craftsmanship. Most clock makers/repairers will never work on clocks of such quality. You do not see many like this around. I am wondering why this is on ebay and not in a specialist auction. It was auctioned around a year ago but no price has been given.

Wow, that is really impressive.  The chronometer balance is something to behold.  Unfortunately all my loose change wouldn't get me even close.

A clever clock that one, it has an "8 day reverse" fusee!  Does that mean the longer it runs it exerts less force on the chain?

Ha Ha Ha.

The reaction of engagement of the great wheel with its pinion is transmitted to its pivot and, in the usual layout, the pull of the fusee line adds to this load. In the alternative layout, the chain unwinds from the opposite side of the fusee, and the mainspring's pull is in opposition to the load imposed by the great wheel's pivot reaction, thus reducing the pivot load.

I don't know a thing about clocks, but even in my ignorance, I can see there's something special about this one.  I have come up with a few pennies short of the asking price, though...sigh...

It is a very high-grade movement and at the top of its tree. Something like this hardly ever comes up, I can’t understand why such a clock would be on such a site as ebay.

For such a well put together piece, that dimpled finish on the plates looks cheap and horrible.

I quite like it but it certainly won't make the clock go any better.
