Bought some of these a year or so ago and they work fine.  I check them now and again against a proper micrometer and they are spot on.  So near enough for me.

Mine seem to be magnetized which is great for keeping track of very small items, but then any steel parts also become magnetized but these are easily demagnetized with a simple demagnetizing tool which most of us have. I have tried to demagnetize the calipers but without success, and it is only a minor problem anyway.

Just a tip - never leave them with the jaws fully closed, always open them a tad. This is to avoid any problems arising from expansion/contraction with ambient temp changes.

    • Quite often in such cases when a screw back gives problems one way out is to superglue on a large nut and use a wrench, then dissolve off the superglue with acetone . Usually removes the tightest backs.

    • Sorry i didn't report back on the replacement i received after returning the dodgy one,  like yours it's good with no excessive play in the thimble, it as the reference lines,  the stumps and pushes look in good condtion and fit snuggly,  i got a good un this time. This good tool as the brass pin on the side below the grub screw, the dodgy one i got had two grub screws, in reality it's pot luck when ordering from ali. Ali's return and refund went smootherly, they provided a prepaid tracked return label to a local warehouse in the UK, the refund was issued the next day after posting even before they'd received it, all good in the end.
    • There are many good quality movements+dials/hands for sale on ebay. When watches weren't worth as much, people sold the gold cases. Finding replacement cases is very difficult - I've been searching for years. New ones are very rare (did manufacturers every sell complete new cases?) so the only choice is to look for a donor watch, which for something like an IWC isn't going to be cheap. Good luck
    • This suggests that the hairspring may have been changed.  It certainly needs some straightening. It may just be the lighting, but it looks like the pivot is out of shape.
