Old Crown

Recommended Posts

Hello Folk,

I found this crown amongst a batch I bought and noticed the writing on it.  A chap has one for sale on Ebay for a ridiculous price and he claims it to be an old Rolex crown.  I simply do not know and wondered if anyone knew.  it would be nice to get a return on it but I am a tad skeptical. It bears the words Brevete Depot International.  Any advice would be gratefully received.

Well, "Breveté" is simply the French for "Patented". When people call a Swiss watch a "Breveté" model - that's all it means!

I can't, off the cuff, think why Rolex should put anything other than "Rolex" on a crown. But, if you see another old Rolex with "Breveté Depot International" on the crown, then I'll be proved wrong!

Thanks Chaps,  I thought it sounded odd.  Just in case you are interested here is the link - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Crown-Marked-Brevete-Depot-International-Early-Rolex-5mm-has-CaseFlange-/191007306723?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item2c78ec33e3

I should put mine up for a fiver next to his but with no claims about Rolex and it might go, then I would be £2.00 up on what I paid for the crowns (:-))

Cheers,

Vic
